we looked at portland, vancouver, new york, and also national doubt data from the association of pedestrian and bicycles. based on research, we have made some changes. i will first briefly discuss the impetus behind this legislation and next summarize the existing bicycle parking requirements in the planning code and discuss the ordinance in detail. i want to acknowledge sfmta, who is here, if you have any questions. bicycle ridership has significantly increased in san francisco over the past few years. sfmta's annual count shows ridership has more than doubled since 2006. this report also estimated over 75,000 daily bike commutes in san francisco. with all of that ridership, the city has only 3,000 bike racks on the sidewalks. it requires better infrastructure, including bicycle parking. the san francisco bike plan was adopted in 2009, a collaboration between board of mta and the planning department. san francisco bike plan is an implementation arm for our general plan and this calls for plentiful and high-quality parking as one ever of its goals. first adopted in 1996 and at that time the

so, this legislation will allow us to establish, along with the best practices that are going on in new york, chicago, and the sunlight foundation, that is to create a position in the city, basically establishing a data office, an open data officer for the city, somebody that's going to help jay naff. jay is like our external innovation officer. he's helping me connect up all the time with all of the different companies in the city that are establishing and creating things. but i need somebody on the inside. we have a 60-department bureaucracy. they're still working in a lot of different silos and one of the things that we still have to do is get them on a higher level of sharing their data. so, establishing a chief data officer for the city that will work with all the different departments, establish some additional standards for them to create pinpoints in every department of what their data is, what they may not be aware of that they're collecting and computers in our departments and allow that data to flow out. this will be a good addition and a great improvement. it is part of the

york or massachusetts. you can take your bottle back to any store and get your nickel or dime back. this was intended to consolidate those many sites into more larger sites on typically supermarket parking lots. that is really where, as opposed to in the store, it's in the parking lot. that is how the law was set up in san francisco we have about 50 stores that qualify as supermarkets for convenience sake, we, the state, set up a system where only about 30 of those were recycling centers back in 1986. over time, through real estate consolidation, the closing of supermarkets or the reduction of parking lots that we have seen, those 30 that we used to have in 1990 are down to about 20 now. at the same time, the number of containers that we get money back for is much greater. there is now water bottles, juice boxes, a lot of things that didn't used to be in the law that are now in the law. so there is a tremendous amount of volume going through this and amounts to about $17 million a year in redemption value t

my brother is a writer in new york and he was my editor for a while. i fired him three times, and i went back with the help of my wife, back into my first year of legal research because i had to certify, authorize this piece of nonfiction. i felt with a memoir you could just wing it you can't because once you start highlighting things you've got to get authority for it. you even have to get consent from the people that you put photographs and. i had a letter from james meredith right after i left, which is in the book itself and i wanted to put that in. my wife reminded me, we need his permission. i don't need his permission. he sent it to me that he didn't send us the world. i send a form letter to jackson mississippi and he signed it on the backside of the envelope, it's about time you got your book out 50 years later. so it took a long time. yeah, it did take longer than i thought it would but again piecing things together, "u.s. news and world report"'s, "life" magazine, look magazine, all those helped me support my story and the story again again

joining me now is new york congresswoman carolyn mccarthy. congresswoman mccarthy, thank you so much. i must say when i listened to the president on friday, i believe it was, i didn't hear him talk about new laws. i heard him talk about meaningfully change. do you think, have you talked to the president, and do you think he will now push what you're wanting to do, vis-a-vis gun laws? >> well, to be very honest with you, i know that the president could be talking from the bully pulpit. certainly we can hopefully work together on passing some legislation that is certainly been introduced every year. but what the president can do is an executive order to tighten up some of the laws that are still already out there. "the new york times" released a report yesterday and this morning that basically was talking about a bill that was passed in 2008, right after virginia tech, that was a bill that i got passed through the house, through the senate, and president bush signed that, but the problem with that is that there has never been enough money there
